College Overview: When Ohio State was founded in 1870, the Department of Mathematics and Engineering was one of seven original departments. Today, the College of Engineering offers 14 undergraduate and 13 graduate programs in 12 departments or centers, as well as, three undergraduate and four graduate degrees in the Knowlton School of Architecture, to approximately 10,000 students. The college has recently expanded its degree offerings with a BS in Engineering Technology available on the regional campuses of the university. The ElectroScience Laboratory: Established in 1942, The ElectroScience Laboratory (ESL) is a distinctive multidisciplinary research center in which world-class faculty and research scientists lead projects that provide state-of-the-art exploration and superior training for graduate and undergraduate students engaged in preeminent electromagnetics, microelectronics, RF, photonic and optical technologies. In addition to our indoor anechoic chamber RF measurement facility, we have a complete complement of electromagnetic test facilities used by our team of researchers. We offer government and industry sponsors an environment for both fundamental and engineering system research to solve the most demanding real-world challenges.

Fifteen faculty, seven research scientists, and more than 90 graduate and undergraduate students conduct world-class research at ESL. ESL has awarded more than 300 doctoral and 500 master’s degrees to students who have gone on to pursue successful careers in government, industry, and academia. ESL is the home of seven IEEE Fellows among its current faculty and researchers.

TIU/Position Overview:

The Ohio State University and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering are inviting applications for a tenure track faculty position in applied electromagnetics to support the priorities of the ElectroScience Laboratory, a major center of excellence in the College of Engineering. We are interested in a broad pool of applicants with research interests and expertise in millimeter-wave circuits and systems, optics and photonics, technologies for quantum information science and engineering, adaptive antennas and array signal processing, mixed-signal microelectronics, or other areas of applied electromagnetics.

Successful candidates are expected to:

Develop a vigorous externally funded research program, as evidenced by grants and awards from a variety of funding agencies;

Develop excellence and leadership in both scholarly and professional activities, as evidenced by a strong record of publications and service in technical societies;

Develop outstanding instructional skills in the classroom at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as evidenced by curricular development, awards for teaching, and teaching innovations; and

Develop leadership in or contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion, as evidenced by a record of instructing, advising, mentoring, and impacting students of all backgrounds, including students from underrepresented minorities.

While the search is focused on assistant professor positions, outstanding candidates at the associate level will also be considered.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a field related to the priorities of the ElectroScience Laboratory, including, but not limited to electrical engineering.

Outstanding academic credentials, as evidenced by a record of peer-reviewed publications and strong letters of recommendation from academic advisors, associated faculty and/or collaborators.

Impactful research that supports the priorities of the ElectroScience Laboratory, as evidenced by dissertation research, journal publications and/or relevant technical conferences.
