Teaching Lab Supervisor – Physics and Astronomy

Salary: Up to $55,851.80 (final salary dependent upon education and experience)

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of New Mexico is searching for a full-time Teaching Lab Supervisor. This position requires a background in physics or a closely related field. The Lab Supervisor will be responsible for providing technical support in upper division undergraduate/graduate physics laboratory classes, namely Electronics, Junior, Senior, and Optics labs, and for maintaining general lab equipment as well as computers. The individual will participate in the development of new experiments (including lab guides and documentation) across these laboratories and participate in the upper division undergraduate/graduate lab committee. The Lab Supervisor will also be responsible for helping with the maintenance of, and improvements to, equipment used in lower division labs and demos used in lectures. The individual also serves as the instructor of record for the summer session introductory physics and astronomy labs. Other areas of responsibility include oversight and management of a small spectroscopy lab, teaching short courses including lab and laser safety, and occasionally performing other duties with the same general qualifications, as needed.

The desired start date is November 1, 2021, but negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Some graduate-level coursework and research experience in Physics, Astrophysics, or a closely related field • Experience in electronics, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and computer interfacing • Competence and interest in participating in the development of upper division undergraduate/graduate physics labs • Competence and interest in working with students For complete job requirements and to apply, please go to (posting number req16264).
