The Medium and High-energy Physics Theory Group in the Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan invites applications for several post-doctoral positions beginning Spring or Fall 2018. 

The group has diverse interests in particle astrophysics, nuclear astrophysics, and cosmology, including theory of the early Universe, dark matter phenomenology, neutrino astrophysics, nucleosynthesis in supernovae and neutron star mergers and their observational signatures. 

Successful candidates will be expected to mainly work with (1) Dr. Kin-Wang Ng and Dr. Yue-Lin Sming Tsai on cosmological constraints using CMB and LSS on various dark matter models, particularly for MeV scale WIMPs, or with (2) Dr. Meng-Ru Wu on neutrino astrophysics or nucleosynthesis and the related multi-messenger signals in supernovae and neutron star mergers. Collaboration with other faculty members in the Medium and High-energy Physics Theory Group, or in other local institutes, including the NCTS (Hsinchu, Taiwan), ASIAA (Taipei, Taiwan), and international institutes, including the Kavli IPMU (Japan), Purple Mountain Observatory (China), GSI (Germany), and NBIA (Denmark), may also be expected. 


The available positions are for 2+1 or 1+1 years and may be extended, subject to performance and available funding. The commencement date can be flexible and applicants are expected to have their PhD degree in physics or astrophysics by the commencement date. For candidates who plan to work on cosmology, numerical expertise with the experience of using COSMOMC and GADGET are especially encouraged to apply.

Academia Sinica is the leading basic research institution in Taiwan, government funded and made up of an increasingly international community of scholars. The Medium and High-energy Physics Theory Group covers all major areas of nuclear, particle, astroparticle physics, and cosmology. In particular, there are active theory programs on heavy favor physics and CP-violation, perturbative QCD, neutrino astrophysics, nuclear astrophysics, beyond the Standard Model phenomenology, early Universe, and quantum gravity. Besides the Theory Group, the Medium and High-energy Physics Experimental Groups conduct active experimental and instrumentation programs on collider, hadron structure, cosmic rays, neutrinos, dark matter and beyond the Standard Model physics and are key participants in international collaborations like AMS, CDEX, ATLAS/LHC, COMPASS/CERN, LEPS/SPring-8, SeaQuest/FNAL, and KAGRA while leading a domestic TEXONO experiment on reactor neutrinos.
