Duke University Department of Biology seeks a Life Science Education Innovator The Department of Biology at Duke University invites applications for a regular rank Professor of the Practice (or Teaching Professor) who has the experience and the vision to help guide our faculty through the process of refining our entry courses and curriculum. The Department of Biology educates nearly half of all Duke undergraduates in our courses and graduates ~160 Biology majors annually. We have a strong tradition of hands-on learning, with nearly 75% of our majors engaging in independent research. Our department has just completed a formal review of our major through the PULSE Recognition Program and our faculty are committed to a thoughtful renovation of our curriculum. We seek an academic leader who can help spearhead efforts to enhance the alignment of our teaching program with the priorities of the AAAS Vision and Change report for undergraduate life science education. The successful applicant will have a PhD in Biology or one of its subdisciplines, at least five years of experience in college teaching, and experience with course design or pedagogical research. The specific teaching requirements associated with the position are flexible and will depend upon the candidate’s expertise and preferences.

Duke Biology is committed to creating an academic environment enriched by diverse life experiences, where everyone feels respected, heard, and safe. We are dedicated to preventing all forms of discrimination and harassment, and hold all members of our community accountable to our values of equity and justice.
