SLAC is seeking a computer scientist/engineer to formulate and carry out world-class computer science research in areas of relevance to SLAC, including but not limited to systems software for exascale computing (data management, programming models, operating and runtime systems, distributed systems, system architecture and storage) and data analytics (algorithms and tools for machine learning and very large scale data analysis). The person in this position will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers and faculty, specifically designing and implementing software tools in collaboration with other SLAC scientists and faculty and students in Stanford’s Computer Science Department as well as other departments in the School of Engineering. Your specific responsibilities include: • Software design and implementation in the areas of runtime systems, compilers and related tools for heterogeneous supercomputers • Working with application and data scientists to understand the software development challenges of exascale computing and demonstrate solutions • Performing benchmarking and other experiments to evaluate the tools we build • Development and release of relevant software artifacts Note: This is a 36-month fixed term position with the possibility of extension or conversion to regular continuing position contingent on performance, budget and needs. Qualifications: • M.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) in Computer Science or a closely related discipline. • Demonstrated ability to carry out independent design and implementation in the area of runtime systems, compilers, or distributed computing. • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population. • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
