Postdoctoral Position in CMB at Stanford University The Kuo group at Stanford University invites applicants for a postdoctoral position in cosmic microwave background (CMB) instrumentation. A successful applicant should possess a strong record of achievements in design, realization, and operation of millimeter-wave astrophysical instruments and the ability to effectively manage and deploy a technically complex and challenging experiment. Opportunities include playing a leading role in the development of the AliCPT-1 receiver, a 72-cm aperture cold refractor capable of hosting up to nineteen 6-in dichroic detector modules operating at 95/150 GHz (up to 32,000 single-polarization TESs baselining microwave-SQUID readout). AliCPT-1 is a fully funded collaboration between Stanford University and the Institute of High Energy Physics (Chinese Academy of Sciences), and is scheduled to deploy to Ali, Tibet sometime in 2019-2020. It is a unique CMB experiment that will survey the low-foreground regions in the Northern Hemisphere and can serve as a pathfinder experiment for next generation experiments such as CMB-S4. Participation in other CMB projects at Stanford (e.g., BICEP and LiteBIRD) is also a potential opportunity for the successful applicant. Other avenues of research may entail R&D in millimeter-wave technologies, including optical components, sensors, readout, and system engineering that could contribute to CMB-S4. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in experimental physics, astrophysics, or a closely related field, or expect to receive their Ph.D. by September 2018. The initial appointment is for a period of 2 years, with possibility of renewal subject to approval of the faculty advisor and available funding. Interested applicants are invited to submit a statement of research, a CV including a list of publications, and three (3) letters of recommendations to https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/10776. The position will remain open until filled. Inquiries about the job should be sent to Professor Chao-Lin Kuo clkuo@stanford.edu
