Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer EngineeringThe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Victoria, invites applications for a tenure track position in the areas of electrical power systems, and/or electrical machines and drives. The appointment, effective May 1, 2019, will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants are expected to have an earned PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a related discipline at the time of appointment or soon thereafter. Successful candidates are expected to initiate and lead an independent research program of international caliber and to teach both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will also actively participate in outreach and recruitment of undergraduate students. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. Excellence in research is evidenced by peer reviewed publications/contributions of high impact and strong endorsements by referees of international standing. Excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by communications skills, a statement on teaching submitted as part of the application, recommendation letters and a sample lecture delivered during the on-site interview. The University of Victoria is one of the top research universities in Canada measured by citation impact. The Department has 28 faculty members, three of whom are Fellows of the IEEE. Research interests include power electronics, multiprocessor systems, distributed systems, communications, microwaves, digital signal processing, VLSI design, control systems, and cybersecurity. There is an active and outstanding group of cybersecurity faculty in the ECE department at the University of Victoria, collaborating in research and graduate and undergraduate education. There are currently about 220 graduate students. The Department has a highly successful undergraduate cooperative education program and a graduate co-op option is also available.
