Duke University Press (DUP) seeks a Sales, Licensing & Rights Assistant to assist with sales, marketing, and licensing duties. This position is 30 hours of work per week, involving approximately 20 hours assisting the Books Sales & International Rights Manager, and approximately 10 hours assisting the Intellectual Property Coordinator.

Job Responsibilities The Sales, Licensing & Rights Assistant will handle administrative tasks related to sales, marketing, and licensing including (but not limited to) database entry; order entry; researching questions regarding sales, contract, and intellectual property; corresponding with authors, sales reps, vendors, and other internal and external stakeholders; packing and shipping materials for international book fairs; preparing copyright registration applications; and creating documentation for this new position.

Rights and Licensing Responsibilities (80%) • Correspond with authors, rights seekers, and sub-agents, fielding and responding to questions, preparing simple licensing forms, and researching rights availability. • Assist with compiling, editing, and preparing rights guides, publicity emails, daily sales reports, and sales kits. • Assist with processing author contracts, invoices, and copyright registrations for books and journals. • Coordinate mailings, notes, and schedules for international rights fairs.

Administrative Responsibilities (20%) • Order and ship books and materials to authors and to licensing related events (i.e. international book fairs). • Research comparable sales for new contracts, and for seasonal forecasting. • Become a super-user of the rights and licensing database, updating data and assisting others as needed.

Other Related Duties • Attend weekly marketing launch meetings. • Travel to represent the Press at academic meetings, as needed. • Serve on interdepartmental task forces, as needed. • Assist with other related sales, marketing, and intellectual property tasks, as needed.

Job Location: This position can be in-person or partially remote, but the employee must reside in the state of North Carolina. This position requires that the employee to come into the office as needed, in order to sort mail, and to pack and send out shipments.

University-Required Education/Training: This position requires communication, analytical, and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program.

University-Required Experience: Work generally requires four years of clerical or research experience to acquire strong skills in administrative or project research responsibilities as well as accepted office management, communications and research practices.

A bachelor's degree in a field of study directly related to the specific position may be substituted for the education and two years of the experience requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
