The Illinois Institute of Technology seeks an individual for a full-time, 9-month position as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics (https://www.iit.edu/physics). Appointment periods are 3-5 years and renewable. The start date is August 16th, 2021.
We seek candidates to teach, using modern physics pedagogy, ~50 student enrollment sections of introductory courses in Mechanics and E&M. Dependent on background, the candidate may also be expected to teach some upper-division undergraduate or graduate courses in physics. The successful applicant is expected to be a dynamic and engaging lecturer and demonstrate potential for overall excellence in teaching. Experience commensurate with teaching advanced undergraduate instrumentation and experimental laboratory courses is a plus. Ability to teach advanced undergraduate astrophysics courses is also a plus. Lecturers in the department typically teach three courses per semester in the fall and spring terms, become members of some service committees, mentor and advise undergraduates and help with recruitment activities. Opportunities for summer teaching employment are also available. An ability to engage undergraduate students in research projects would be highly welcomed.
Annual salary is negotiable and dependent upon the candidate’s previous experience and qualifications.
Qualifications
•A Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in physics, astrophysics or closely related field
•Previous Physics teaching experience is desirable but not required
