The National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading research-intensive university (http://www.nus.edu.sg/) that is consistently ranked among the world’s top universities. Established in 2004, the Department of Communications and New Media (CNM) (http://www.fass.nus.edu.sg/cnm/) is a leader in communication and new media research and education. It offers undergraduate, honours and postgraduate programmes in communications and new media studies, with an innovative curriculum that introduces students to key debates in the areas of media and communication studies, communication management, interactive media design and cultural studies. Its students undertake industry immersion through its compulsory internship programme. Successful candidates for these positions will join an engaging community of 32 full-time faculty and approximately 800 undergraduate and graduate students.

Remuneration is competitive and includes medical, housing, relocation and other benefits. Significant research start-up funding is available if appointed on the tenure track.

a) [Tenure Track] Assistant Professor in Computational Communication 
We welcome applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Communication(s), social media analytics, data science, information science, and information systems.

Qualifications: PhD in Communication or closely related discipline by date of appointment, with a specialisation in methods for digital data collection, analytics, and/or visualization. Evidence of excellence in computational communication research and teaching. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to conduct research that applies data science in communication contexts such as data journalism and data-driven strategic communication for health, marketing, or politics, and considers the implications of data-driven methods for building and validating communication and/or information theory. Candidates must have experience with computational techniques using R or Python and the ability to teach courses in computational communication, social media research, network analysis, and/or time series analysis.

b) [Tenure Track] Assistant Professor in Cultural Studies
We seek applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: inter-Asia cultural studies; cultural and new media industries in Asia; political economy analysis of cultural studies in Asia; critical diaspora and mobility studies; new media, indigenous and sovereignty studies; digital ethnography; posthumanism, environment and ecology in Asia, cultural economy; cultural policy; critical creative industry studies; soft power and cultural diplomacy; multiculturalism and migration; community cultural development and; urban communication such as urban digital art and design. Candidates will have demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in cultural studies and critical theory, and a demonstrated engagement in the cultural, political and ethical implications of race, gender, sexuality, social class and social practice.

Qualifications: PhD in Cultural Studies, Media and Communication Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Humanities, or closely related discipline by the date of appointment; evidence of successful teaching.

For tenure-track applications, post-doctoral experience and a proven or strongly emerging track record of high quality research and impactful publications, alongside clear research plans, are highly desirable. 

Professional development: Successful talented early career candidates with excellent research track records will be considered for the National University of Singapore Presidential Young Professorship (NUS PYP) scheme which includes a start-up research grant up to SGD 750,000 including scholarships to hire PhD students, and an award of SGD 250,000 for discretionary spending.

c) [Educator Track] Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Strategic Communication
We seek applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: corporate communication, public relations, campaign management, social media PR, and public relations writing. Candidates will have demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in strategic communication and will have demonstrated current industry knowledge of corporate communication. Experience in crafting media statements and PR writing would be an advantage.

Qualifications: Successful candidates must have a PhD in Communication or a closely related discipline by date of appointment; evidence of excellent teaching; approximately three (3) years of teaching experience in higher education settings; and experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds including international students as well as adult and professional learners in both online and face-to-face classrooms.

d) Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Social Science (2 Positions)
Candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: statistical modelling; big data analytics; machine learning; natural language processing; network science; survey/experimental methods; causal inference; econometrics.

Qualifications: PhD in a discipline closely related to computational social science by date of appointment, with evidence of interdisciplinary research applying computational methods to the social sciences. This includes but is not limited to social science disciplines (sociology, political science, communication, economics etc.) or computer science and related disciplines (information science, data science, computational physics etc.) Evidence of successful teaching in methods or theory.

e) [Educator Track] Teaching Assistants
We seek applicants with teaching experience and/or industry experience in one or more of the following areas: public speaking, media writing, communication, quantitative research methods, qualitative research methods, digital storytelling, cultural studies, interactive media design and development, and other communication related areas.

Qualifications: Successful candidates must have a good Honours Degree in Communications or a closely affiliated discipline by the appointment of start date and a record of excellence in teaching (if applicable). A passion for working closely with students and a commitment to student learning are essential. Successful candidates are also expected to have experience with online teaching. Successful candidates having experience with online teaching and the development of MOOCs are preferred. HTML and JavaScript programming is a plus.
