The Department of Philosophy at the National University of Singapore invites applicants for a postdoctoral position, starting in 2022. The postdoctoral position is affiliated with the new Centre for Advanced Robotics Technology Innovation (CARTIN). The topic of the project is spatial reasoning and imagination, with the ultimate goal of enabling robots to manipulate novel objects – for example, to enable a robot to recognise whether a hollow vessel is useful as a cup, and then to fill it with liquid. Since the project is interdisciplinary, we welcome applicants from a range research backgrounds, including - but not limited to – logic, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of language, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, philosophy of mind, computational linguistics or decision theory. The ideal candidate would have a background in computing or engineering as well as philosophy. The post-doctoral position is entirely research; no teaching duties are required.

Application Process: Interested applicants should apply on AcademicJobsOnline, by January 31st, 2021. The application should include: - A CV (Required) - A writing sample (Required) - Three letters of recommendation (Recommended) - A cover letter briefly addressing how their present or future research might contribute to the project (Optional)

Deadline: January 31st, 2021. If you have any questions, feel free to contact either Ben Blumson or Gregory Chirikjian. For general information about the Philosophy Department at NUS, please visit www.fas.nus.edu.sg/philo/
