Position Description

The Department of Bioengineering at Rice University, located in Houston, TX, seeks applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a start date of July 2023. The Department of Bioengineering, a top-10 ranked department by US News & World Report, is located in the BioScience Research Collaborative building, adjacent to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world.

We encourage candidates in the following areas to apply: biomaterials and regenerative medicine, genome engineering and molecular engineering, biomedical imaging, cancer research, and global health. However, candidates from all areas of bioengineering will be considered. Outstanding candidates at higher ranks (Associate Professor or Full Professor) may also be considered. 

Faculty members are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, perform research in their specialized area, and contribute to university service. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in scholarship, teaching, and collegial service. The successful candidate will be required to have a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds. The selected candidate will be expected to establish a strong research program supported by extramural funding. Rice offers an outstanding environment for research at the interface of bioengineering, biology and medicine, with strong collaborations with the adjacent Texas Medical Center.

Qualifications

All candidates must have a PhD degree in bioengineering or a related field conferred by November 1st the year employment commences and professional experience consistent with the position rank.
