Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the theory of nanomechanical systems. The problems to be addressed include classical and quantum dynamics of driven nonlinear vibrational systems, the mode-mode and the electron-vibrational coupling, and the mechanisms and means of characterization of fluctuations and dissipation. The candidates are expected to have a PhD in theoretical physics or mechanical engineering. The successful candidate will work in the group of Mark Dykman in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Michigan State University and Steven Shaw in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology. The initial appointment will be one year, but is renewable for an additional year, and potentially for yet another year, depending on mutual agreement. The researcher will have an opportunity to spend time at both MSU and Florida Tech in a mutually agreed manner and will meet regularly with the local principal investigator and by teleconference or in person with the other PI. Close collaboration with the leading theoretical and experimental groups in the US and abroad is envisioned, including other postdoctoral researchers expected to join the CMP theory group at MSU.

Candidates can apply at http://careers.msu.edu/mob/cw/en-us/job/502240/research-associatefixed-term. They should submit a curriculum vita, a list of publications, and the names and contact information for three references who will be contacted via e-mail. For further inquiry about the position, please contact Mark Dykman(dykman@pa.msu.edu) or Steven Shaw (sshaw@fit.edu).
