The Center for the Study of Adolescent Risk and Resilience (C-StARR) at Duke University invites applications for a Research Scientist position to begin July 1, 2021. The C-StARR, a National Institute on Drug Abuse Core Center of Excellence, supports cutting-edge science on self-regulation during late adolescence and emerging adulthood. In addition to informing relevant prevention programs, practices, and policies, the C-StARR is committed to the mentorship and training of the next generation of scientists studying the development of self-regulation across the adolescent years and the effects of deficits and skills at self-regulation on consequential outcomes. Of particular interest in the current funding cycle are the role of mobile device use in adolescent health and well-being and the antecedents and consequences of e-cigarette use by adolescents and emerging adults. Information about other areas of interest is provided at c-starr.org.

Candidates are expected to have a PhD in a social or behavioral science discipline and expertise in biomarker research. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in the collection, analysis, and publication of data focused on the identification of biomarkers associated with health behavior and risk. The position requires skills in research design, data management and analysis, and written communication to academic and lay audiences. The person in this position will manage the activities of the Biological Data Acquisition and Analysis Core in the C-StARR. In this role, the person will be expected to work collaboratively with senior and early-career scientists as well as trainees, designing new studies and contributing to manuscripts and grant applications using new data and the rich sources of extant data managed by the Center.
