The Associate in Research will manage all aspects of infant study collaborations with Drs. Makeba Wilbourn and Reiko Mazuka investigating parental influences on infants/toddlers’ language acquisition. In addition, a small portion of this position entails aiding the PI in implementing a 10-week summer internship, funded by a National Science Foundation REU-grant that provides underrepresented scholars with an intensive, hands-on (10-week) summer research experience. 

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Managing the behavioral studies conducted by conferring with principal investigators to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments and make modifications to existing procedures.
  • Perform a variety of complex duties involved in conducting behavioral research experiments in order to collect, code, and assemble data sets from experimental results for analyses.
  • Review and create research protocols, manuals as well as review scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. 
  • Hire, train, and supervise research assistants as well as recruit participants. 
  • Maintain the lab database and website, IRB protocols, and manage the lab budget and ordering of equipment.
  • Assist in data analysis, applying for extramural sources of funding, preparing posters and talks for presentations, and papers for publication. 
  • Initiate and implement NSF-REU recruiting strategy, application organization and management, collection of letters of recommendation, and coordinate communication with applicants throughout the application and selection process. 
  • Coordinate interns’ travel to and from campus, secure housing, transportation, parking passes, etc. Assist in coordinating with the co-PI’s respective lab staff regarding special accommodations, cross-lab project interests, dietary and/or housing restrictions, etc. 
  • Assist with budget management (e.g., housing payments, securing retreat sites, dinner reservations, outing tickets/fees) and be responsible for purchasing, coordinating reimbursements, dispersing stipends, etc. 
The job of Associate in Research requires someone with excellent organizational skills, a great disposition with children and families, an appreciation for the research, an ability to supervise many undergraduate students and someone with good computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • A bachelor's degree in social or developmental psychology or a related discipline 
  • One or more years of research experience, preferably with children and/or diverse populations 
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills and the ability to work independently 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills 
  • Extremely efficient in email correspondence
