TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR– ORGANISMAL BIOLOGY

The Department of Biology invites applications for a tenure-track position in organismal biology at the Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 2018. Applicants should have a PhD and post-doctoral experience. The strongest candidates will demonstrate a commitment to teaching and have an active research program in the laboratory and/or field that can effectively engage motivated undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. We especially encourage applicants with expertise in aquatic biology, animal physiology, or neurobiology to apply.

Teaching responsibilities include participation in a team-taught introductory course, an intermediate level course focused on an area of organismal biology that includes laboratory and/or fieldwork, and an advanced seminar with research projects in an area of the applicant’s interest. Participation in the interdisciplinary Neuroscience and/or Environmental Studies programs is desirable. The College offers competitive start-up packages to support faculty research and teaching, funds for travel to professional meetings, summer support of undergraduate research collaborators and a generous sabbatical policy.

Located in the immediate suburbs of Philadelphia and just 20 miles from Wilmington DE, Swarthmore College is a highly selective liberal arts college whose mission combines academic rigor with social responsibility. Swarthmore has a strong institutional commitment to diversity, and actively seeks and welcomes applications from candidates with exceptional qualifications, particularly those with demonstrable commitments to a more inclusive society and world. Applicants from traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. For more information on Faculty Diversity and Excellence at Swarthmore, see our website.
