The Duke experimental high-energy Mu2e group has an immediate opening for a Research Associate. However, depending on a candidate’s experience, a higher level (Research Scientist) appointment is possible. The Mu2e experiment at FNAL is to search for physics beyond the Standard Model by looking for flavor violating muon-to-electron conversion. The experiment is in construction phase with expected data collection in 2023.
The Duke group has been working on the Mu2e Straw Tracker, and our main responsibilities are twofold. One is being a part of the tracker construction team, and the other is tracker alignment software development using scan data and MC generated cosmic rays. The scan data is from our x-ray mapper, which will measure the three-dimensional position of about 20,000 wires and straws. The new hire is expected to contribute to both tasks. Some detector-related experience is desirable but not required,
There is an initial two-year appointment with additional extension depending on performance.
