RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research-Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), to carry out research and technical projects aimed at improving the sensitivity of the LIGO interferometers, mainly at MIT but with opportunities to travel to the LIGO observatories in Hanford, Washington, and Livingston, Louisiana. Projects will bear on the goals of both bringing the LIGO detectors to their design sensitivities for their fourth and fifth observing runs, as well as designing and developing new upgrades and future generations of gravitational-wave detectors.

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in physics, at least three years’ post-Ph.D. experience in the field of interferometry, a demonstrated record of scientific research, and an interest in future developments in gravitational-wave detectors. Must be able to work in an extended collaboration with informal reporting and minimal supervision. Job #20673
