Visiting Assistant Professor of Graphic Design Lehigh University

The Department of Art, Architecture, and Design (AAD) at Lehigh University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor position in graphic design. This position will be a 9-month appointment to begin August 2021.

The department seeks a colleague with a primary research and practice field in graphic design, to teach beginning through advanced level undergraduate studio courses in graphic design including web design. Additional expertise in a secondary area of specialization that can contribute to and deepen elective course offerings is desirable, such as interaction, information, or user experience design, data visualization, or design history, theory, and criticism.

Candidates for the position will have an accomplished portfolio of scholarly and artistic work that is already being recognized for its excellence and impact, as well as prior teaching experience. They will guide students in rigorous design research and thinking, and a design process that is technically accomplished and conceptually grounded. The department is particularly interested in candidates who understand design as a means for dialogue, remediation, equity, and service, and who are thinking in innovative ways about the place of design and design pedagogy in contemporary and post-pandemic life.

Responsibilities ● Teach 3 studio courses each in both the fall and spring semesters in graphic design, including web design, with courses determined in consultation with the department and in alignment with the candidate’s areas of expertise ● Participation in meetings, committees, reviews, and presentations throughout the academic year, both within the design program and the department

Qualifications and Requirements

● M.F.A. or equivalent terminal degree in graphic design or other relevant discipline ● Prior teaching experience at the college or university level ● Strong core competencies in design practice, technology, and software (Adobe CC), and experience developing client-based work or a research practice of comparable extent

Application Instructions

For full consideration applications should be received by April 12, 2021 with the following materials:

● A letter of interest, outlining the candidate’s approach to teaching and research focus. ● Curriculum vitae ● Portfolio of student work (10 MB max) ● Portfolio of candidate’s own research or professional work (10 MB max) ● List of 3 references with contact information. References will only be contacted if the candidate advances in the search
