Two PhD/PostDoc positions in fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy of novel nanoparticles and their bio-conjugates is available in the BioImaging and NanoPhotonics group, Department of Physics at Ariel University, Israel. The positions are available starting July 1st, 2021. 

1. Design and synthesis of novel fluorescent nanoparticles for widefield (multiplexing) fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) 
a. Area of Research: The project aims at developing new fluorescent imaging techniques and assays based on specially designed fluorescent dyes developed in the research group. In particular dyes with NIR excitation and emission are studied for their use in: gated detection, FLIM, and biomedical in vivo applications. The candidate will primarily work with state-of-the-art fluorescence spectroscopy techniques including: widefield fluorescence microscopy, the largest time-gated SPAD array fluorescence camera, and phasor analysis for highly sensitive FLIM. 
b. The candidate: The preferred candidate should have a Master/PhD degree in Nanotechnology, Chemistry, Physics or related fields. The preferred candidate will have strong background in nanoparticles synthesis and characterization. Candidates experienced with one or more of the above mentioned fluorescence techniques, and/or with preparation and purification of dye-bio-conjugates are preferred. 

2. The development and application of novel optical based techniques for fluorescence imaging in the ShortWave InfraRed (SWIR) regime
 a. Area of research: We aim to develop highly sensitive, real time, optical based techniques in the SWIR regime for small animal imaging. The candidate will work with highly sensitive SWIR InGaAS camera to collect the fluorescence emission from whole-body small animal. 
b. The candidate: We are looking for an excellent applicant with a Master/PhD degree in ElectroOptics Engineering, Physics and related disciplines, who is strongly committed to the development and application of optical microscopes, careful experimentation and computer based quantitative data acquisition and analysis. 

.The successful applicant will enroll as a Ph.D. student/PostDoc position at Ariel University. The Ph.D. program, in addition to the project work, comprises participation in courses and some activity as teaching assistant.

Terms of employment:. The PhD position is for a four-year period and expected to lead to a Ph.D. degree at Ariel University. The Posdoc position is for at least three years. Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with Ariel University.
