The Laboratory of Atomic and Solid State Physics (LASSP) at Cornell University has an opening for a Postdoctoral Associate to work on the development of detectors for applications in x-ray science and electron-microscopy.

The Detector Group is in the process of developing photon-integrating pixel array detectors suitable for x-rays with high energy and high flux. The successful candidate is expected to engage actively in detector design and testing, as well as in experiments using these detectors at the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) and other synchrotron sources. Applications include the fast dynamics of condensed matter under high pressure conditions, materials failure, and soft matter properties.

A PhD in experimental physics or related fields is required. Experience with ASIC design is preferred. Appointments are nominally for one year with the possibility of up to five renewals (six years total), subject to mutual satisfaction and the availability of funds.

Applications should be submitted at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/22465 and should include:

  • CV,
  • a list of publications,
  • a statement describing your specific technical experience,
  • a statement of research interests, and
  • the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of three (3) recommenders.
Complete applications will be considered immediately. For more information about the position, contact Julia Thom-Levy (jt297@cornell.edu), with “Cornell postdoc opening” in the subject.

The Research Division and the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell embrace diversity and seek candidates who will create a climate that attracts students, faculty, and staff of all races, nationalities, and genders. We strongly encourage women and underrepresented minorities to apply.
