Postdoctoral position in Gravitational Wave Physics and/or Numerical Relativity at the Center for Gravitational Physics at UT Austin

The Center for Gravitational Physics (CGP) at the University of Texas at Austin invites applicants for the Center for Gravitational Physics Postdoctoral Fellowship. This is a full-time postdoctoral position starting in September 2022. Fellows will work with Professors Deirdre Shoemaker and Aaron Zimmerman on projects relating to gravitational wave data analysis, numerical simulations of compact binaries, testing relativity, and/or perturbed black holes with an emphasis on current or future gravitational wave detection. The initial appointment is for two years, with the possibility of extension to a third year subject to available funding and research performance.

Fellows will benefit from collaboration with other faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students at the CGP. Professors Shoemaker and Zimmerman are members of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and the LISA Consortium, and a successful candidate will have the opportunity to join or continue membership in these collaborations. Fellows will also benefit from interactions with members of the Weinberg Theory Group, the Department of Astronomy, and the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences.

Successful candidates will also benefit from living in Austin, a large city known for a thriving live music scene, artistic culture, and great food. It is widely regarded as the “live music capital of the world” and an overall great city to live and work in.

Applicants must submit a cover letter (no more than 1 page), CV, list of publications, a short statement of research interests (no more than 3 pages in length) and arrange to have three letters of reference uploaded to the AJO posting. Applications are due December 17, 2021. Membership in the LIGO Scientific or Virgo Collaborations, LISA Consortium and/or previous experience with numerical relativity will be seen as beneficial for applicants. The completion of a PhD is required prior to the beginning of this appointment.
