The Laboratory for Nuclear Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The MIT LHCb group consists of two faculty, Mike Williams and Eluned Smith, one research scientist, three post-docs, along with graduate and undergraduate students. The group focuses on searches for new low-mass particles, including dark photons and axion-like particles, rare penguin decays, the high-level trigger (HLT), and studies of QCD phenomenology.

Candidates should have a strong interest in HLT (software/algorithm) development. The successful candidate will be expected to dedicate substantial effort to the fully software-based trigger system being employed by LHCb in Run 3. Further opportunities to participate in any part of the group activities will be given to the successful candidate, including the option to become a member of the NSF AI Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI); see https://iaifi.org.

Job Requirements:

Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in physics, preferably experimental particle or nuclear physics, or in a related field. This position can be based at CERN or MIT.
