POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to the development of laser cooling techniques for the study of radioactive atoms and molecules. The duration of the position will be 1 year, with the option of an additional two-year extension, depending on mutual agreement and funding availability.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Postdoctoral Associate will play a leading role in the design and construction of a novel experimental device for the laser cooling of radioactive atoms and molecules. The selected candidate is expected to lead research programs focused on the study of radioactive molecules for probing fundamental symmetries.

The selected candidate is expected to participate in experiments and analyze the resulting data from experimental campaigns. They will support investigations of fundamental physics utilizing exotic atoms and molecules at other facilities such as FRIB (US) and CERN (Switzerland).

Candidates are expected to perform independent research safely, efficiently, and professionally. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the safety and quality standards of experiments are consistent with MIT's standard operating procedures. They are expected to interact with and provide training to undergraduate and graduate students. As part of an international collaboration, the selected candidate will actively interact with members of various US and European institutions.

The selected candidate will be based at MIT and is expected to travel occasionally to other facilities and institutions. Moreover, the collaborative nature of the position requires the candidate to be available to attend collaboration meetings across the US.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The position reports to Prof. Ronald F. Garcia Ruiz at MIT. The incumbent will interact with PIs from other collaborating institutions.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
The incumbent is expected to supervise, train, and support technicians, undergraduate students, and graduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS/TECHNICAL SKILLS:
A PhD in Physics along with experience in precision measurements is required. Knowledge of and graduate experience with AMO and/or nuclear experimental techniques are required. The position demands the ability to build, lead, and manage a team with diverse backgrounds, knowledge, and skillsets. Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team are essential, as are effective oral and written communication skills.
