Faculty Position in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics at Oklahoma State University

The Department of Physics at Oklahoma State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics (CMP). We encourage applications from candidates with a proven track record of research in all areas of hard condensed matter physics. Areas of interest include but are not limited to: advanced synthesis and characterization of materials, especially magnetoelectronic or heat transport and/or novel devices for electronic or optoelectronic applications. A significant plus is demonstrating the capacity to collaborate and synergize with existing CMP and other research groups across OSU. The current CMP group at OSU consists of three experimentalists and one theoretician who works closely with the experimentalists. The successful candidate is expected to attract extramural research funding, advise Ph.D. students, publish scholarly articles and teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The Department of Physics welcomes applications from candidates who, through their research, teaching, and service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the Physics Department. Currently, 25% of the Physics faculty are from underrepresented groups in physics. We are committed to increasing the diversity of our faculty. A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required, and the promise of excellence in teaching and the ability to mentor students, including those from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups.

The appointment is at the Assistant Professor level, with an expected start date of August 15, 2023. As a Carnegie-R1 comprehensive research university, OSU offers ample opportunities for the successful candidate to develop a research-intensive career. The typical teaching load for research-active faculty is one course per semester. Applications must be submitted online at Interfolio (http://apply.interfolio.com/116002). They must include (1) cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae with a list of publications, (3) statement of research interests and plans, (4) statement of teaching philosophy, (5) statement of previous activities and plans aimed at expanding diversity, and (6) list of three professional references.

Applications received by January 1, 2023, will receive full consideration. The review process will continue until the position is filled. Further inquiries should be addressed to Prof. Borunda (mario.borunda@okstate.edu). All positions are contingent upon available funding.
