Expressions of interest for a postdoctoral research position as a part of the Villum Foundation project “Complex dynamics of non-stationary quantum matter” led by Dr. Berislav Buca are invited. This newly formed group will deal with exciting and pioneering research in many-body quantum dynamics and will be hosted at the Niels Bohr International Academy (Niels Bohr Institute) at the University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark.

The project aims to study emergence of complex dynamics in quantum many-body systems from the microscopic laws of quantum physics and will directly tie into various ongoing research directions in non-equilibrium quantum physics including dissipative and light-induced many-body engineering, quantum many-body non-ergodic dynamics (e.g. quantum many-body scars) and quantum information processing. Connection with experiments will be sought when possible.

The project is based on unconventional algebraic principles discovered by the PI which are already finding broad applications ranging from operator algebras, through novel passive quantum error correcting algorithms in realistic quantum computing platforms to computing complex dynamics in driven quantum matter experiments.

The postdoc will have an opportunity to work on this emerging and quickly developing direction of research that, quite uniquely, ties in with mathematical physics and is connected to experimental research. The postdoc will enjoy significant flexibility in working arrangements. Expressions of interest from individuals with expertise in theoretical physics topics ranging from mathematical physics (e.g. integrable models, rigorous statistical mechanics) to computational physics (e.g. tensor network theory based computations) are warmly invited. Interested individuals with a broad and original point of view are particularly welcome. The postdoc will receive a competitive salary (including pension) and funds for travel and computing equipment.
