Assistant Professorship in Theoretical and Gravitational Wave Astrophysics
The Niels Bohr International Academy (NBIA) at the Niels Bohr Institute invites expressions of interest for a fixed-term 5-year assistant professorship at the interface between astrophysical fluid dynamics and gravitational wave astrophysics in the area of dynamics and observational signatures of compact binary mergers. Fall 2024 would be the preferred starting date. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit all material using this website before December 1st, 2023. The search may possibly continue beyond that date.
We are seeking highly motivated, outstanding individuals with the drive and capacity to establish themselves as leaders by building their own groups. Assistant professors at NBIA benefit from significant support from senior faculty members towards these goals. Assistant professors are expected to carry out an independent research program and interact with other NBIA members. They have the opportunity to guide students and junior fellows, teach courses at various levels, participate in outreach activities, and organize international meetings and PhD schools.
The Theoretical Astrophysics and Gravitational Wave Astrophysics groups at Niels Bohr International Academy include Martin Pessah, Johan Samsing, Daniel D’Orazio, and about 10 students and postdoctoral researchers. All group members have access to some of the largest dedicated astrophysics computer resources in Scandinavia, including a general-purpose cluster with more than 10,000 cores, a GPU cluster, a petabyte of storage, and dedicated data analysis servers.
The Niels Bohr International Academy strives to attract the best and the brightest by providing the environment to enable curiosity-driven breakthrough research in the physical sciences and mathematics. This hire is part of a vigorous ongoing expansion at the Niels Bohr International Academy into the field of Gravitational Physics, bringing together a number of scientists from several areas of theoretical physics and astrophysics in order to address some of the most burning questions related to gravity. The entire Gravity Group at Niels Bohr International Academy includes the Strong Group and has around 40 researchers from junior to senior levels, and a very active and dynamic program of visitors, workshops, conferences, PhD-schools, seminars, and informal group meetings.
The University of Copenhagen wishes to reflect the diversity of society and welcomes all qualified individuals regardless of personal background.
