The Department of Physics & Astronomy at Vanderbilt University seeks an outstanding individual for a tenure-track faculty position in experimental high-energy nuclear physics. The candidate will be expected to develop an independent and vigorous research program, teach and mentor a diverse cohort of undergraduate and graduate students, and broadly contribute to the vitality of the University.

The current faculty in the group participate in the PHENIX and sPHENIX collaborations at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the JETSCAPE theory/experiment collaboration, and the ECCE consortium at the future Electron-Ion Collider at BNL. The Vanderbilt faculty also includes both nuclear and particle theorists, a group in experimental high energy physics in CMS, a Data Science Institute, and a newly formed Initiative for Gravity, Waves, and Fluids. The successful candidate would be expected to take leadership in one of the experimental collaborations at BNL or in CMS, and to contribute to the continued development of a strong graduate program in high-energy nuclear physics. A PhD in nuclear physics or a related field is expected.

Vanderbilt University is a private research university ranked in the top 15 nationally; its 330-acre park-like campus is located on the western edge of downtown Nashville, TN, known colloquially as Music City and consistently rated as one of the best cities in the US in which to live and work.

Vanderbilt University has a strong institutional commitment to fostering excellence through an academically and culturally diverse community of scholars. For example, the Fisk-Vanderbilt Masters-to-PhD program was founded in the Physics & Astronomy department and has become a national model for the recruitment, retention, and training of talented underrepresented minority scholars in physics and astronomy. Given our diverse graduate cohort, we welcome candidates with experience in equity, diversity and inclusion in teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or service. Qualifications
