Postdoctoral Associate - The Collaborative on Media and Messaging for Health and Social Policy

The Collaborative on Media and Messaging for Health and Social Policy (COMM HSP) team at Cornell University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate. We are seeking an independent and highly motivated researcher with interests and expertise in health equity, racism, politics, and public policy. 

The Postdoc Associate will work closely with Dr.’s Jamila Michener, Neil Lewis, and Jeff Niederdeppe on a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant entitled, “Developing Rapidly Responsive Community Engaged Research on Media Messaging and Narrative Change Strategies to Promote Health and Racial Equity.” The specific responsibilities of the postdoc will include (but are not limited to) analyzing policy content, synthesizing publicly available public opinion data on relevant health and social policies, assisting in conducting experiments, drafting policy reports, and supporting engagement with state and local community partners. There is no teaching associated with the position, but the Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to be an active contributor to COMM HSP activities. The 
Postdoctoral Associate will also be given mentorship and dedicated time to pursue their own scholarship. 

Successful candidates will have a doctorate before starting the position. The fellowship has a 2-year term beginning as soon as January 2023. 

We especially welcome applicants with degrees in Political Science, Public Policy, Communication, or a related social science field. The most competitive candidates will have proficiency working collaboratively on multidisciplinary research teams. Candidates should also have a scholarly record that displays a commitment to advancing research on health policy and racial equity. We strongly encourage underrepresented scholars who have been historically and structurally excluded from research and funding opportunities to apply.

The cover letter should include some perspective on the candidate’s past efforts and future plans to advance racial equity in health.
