Description
We seek candidates interested in the physics and application of TES devices that can be fabricated in the QUP satellite in ISAS/JAXA. The successful candidate will work with QUP PI, Noriko Yamasaki, whose research interests are astrophysics and particle physics utilizing high-precision cryogenic detectors.
Our postdoctoral fellows are
for three years, with the possibility of a 2-year renewal based upon
satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing
operational needs, and are provided with salaries comparable to those at other
prestigious institutions. We may offer a higher position, at the rank of
assistant professor, for five years with the possibility of a 2-year renewal to
outstanding candidates.
The primary research topic of the new position is the axion search with Transition Edge Sensors microcalorimeters. We expect to build a new detection system at KEK with TESs fabricated at the QUP ISAS satellite. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics/Engineering or a related field by the time the appointment begins. One or more of experience in fields of device fabrication/sensor physics/cryogenics instrumentation are preferable. Less than 50 % of the effort can be used for the applicants’ self-motivating work. The successful candidate is encouraged to collaborate with other QUP members on various topics, including the SpaceTES project for the LiteBIRD mission.
As a WPI research center, QUP is designed to establish an international environment where more than 30% of researchers are non-Japanese. English is the official language of QUP. QUP is
an equal-opportunity employer that will build a diverse community of scientists. We welcome qualified applicants worldwide, including women, persons with disabilities, and underrepresented minorities, regardless of race, color, religion, gender identity, etc. About 40% of initial PIs at QUP are female.
The posting shall remain open until the positions are filled, however, for full consideration, we encourage all candidates to apply by November 30, 2023. Applications will only be accepted via AcademicJobsOnline.org. Applicants should submit curriculum vitae (with an email address and citizenship), a statement of research interests, and a list of publications. Applicants should also ensure that at least three letters of reference be submitted on their behalf. They should be uploaded from this page.
