INTRODUCTION

The Department of Mathematics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Actuarial Science Program at the University of Connecticut (UConn), Storrs, invites applications for full-time, 9-month non-tenure-track faculty at the rank of Lecturer in Actuarial Science beginning in Fall 2022. The position comes with a competitive salary, benefits, and is renewable annually based on evaluations of satisfactory performance.

The University of Connecticut’s actuarial science program is a vibrant program with nearly 400 undergraduates, 25 master’s students, and 6 Ph.D. students. Since its inception, our program has contributed over 1,400 baccalaureates and over 600 master’s graduates to the workforce. It is one of the few Actuarial Science programs of its kind in New England.

The University of Connecticut’s Actuarial Science Program has been a Society of Actuaries’ recognized Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) every year since 2009 and was one of the original 13 schools named worldwide. Today, it is one of just 33 schools so recognized throughout the world and the only one in New England. In 2016, the program was also named a Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) University Award Winner—one of just four schools so identified in the first year of the CAS Award. That recognition is available once every three years, and the UConn program won that award again the next time it was eligible in 2019.

Founded in 1881, UConn is a Land Grant and Sea Grant institution and member of the Space Grant Consortium. It is the state’s flagship institution of higher education and includes a main campus in Storrs, CT, four regional campuses throughout the state, and 13 Schools and Colleges, including a Law School in Hartford, and Medical and Dental Schools at the UConn Health campus in Farmington. The University has approximately 10,000 faculty and staff and 32,000 students, including nearly 24,000 undergraduates and over 8,000 graduate and professional students. UConn is a Carnegie Foundation R1 (highest research activity) institution, among the top 25 public universities in the nation. Through research, teaching, service, and outreach, UConn embraces diversity and cultivates leadership, integrity, and engaged citizenship in its students, faculty, staff, and alumni. UConn promotes the health and well-being of citizens by enhancing the social, economic, cultural, and natural environments of the state and beyond. The University serves as a beacon of academic and research excellence as well as a center for innovation and social service to communities. UConn is a leader in many scholarly, research, and innovation areas. Today, the path forward includes exciting opportunities and notable challenges.
