GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY invites applications for one or more non-tenure-track clinical faculty positions (at the Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor level) in the Department of Computer Information Systems (CIS) in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business effective fall semester 2022 or earlier.

Candidates for clinical faculty positions must have demonstrated high-level classroom performance, significant professional experience, the capability for publishing research related to the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or research related to professional practice, and an earned Ph.D. in Information Systems or related fields from an AACSB-accredited university or international equivalent. Ideal candidates will add to the teaching capabilities that include executive graduate programs (e.g., specialized masters programs) and online instruction. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching interests in the following areas: Cybersecurity, Digital Innovation, and Data Management and Analytics. We strongly encourage applications from women and minority candidates.

ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT The CIS Department is consistently ranked as a top department both in terms of its programs and research. The department’s undergraduate program was recently ranked # 8 and its graduate program was ranked # 11 in the nation by US News & World Report. Additionally, the department consistently ranks among the best in the world in terms of research productivity based on publications in MIS Quarterly and Information Systems Research. The department faculty recently received a multi-million-dollar grant from the National Science Foundation for cybersecurity workforce preparation in the age of artificial intelligence.

The Department of Computer Information Systems’ vision is to be a world leader in advancing knowledge in the IS discipline. The department has a rich history of leading cutting-edge research topics and converting that knowledge into world-class academic programming. Consistent with the Robinson College’s new strategic plan, Accelerate 2025, the department’s future is to build on these strengths by recruiting and integrating outstanding faculty that will allow us to continue to address business problems and phenomena while expanding to investigate high-stakes societal challenges.

Georgia State University (GSU) is a leading urban research university located in the heart of Atlanta. It is the largest university in Georgia with 54,000 students. It continues to lead the state and nation in graduating economically and racially diverse students on time and at a reasonable cost. Pell-eligible students and many first-generation college students represent 58% of GSU’s undergraduate student population. GSU has earned national and international recognition for its data-oriented approach to student support, retention, and success including being ranked as the third most innovative university in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

With more than 9,000 students and 170 faculty members, the Robinson College of Business (RCB) is among the largest accredited business schools in the United States with a student body that is one of the most diverse in the country. Fifty-six percent of RCB undergraduates are under-represented minorities. According to the most recent edition of Diverse Issues in Education, the Computer Science and CIS Departments rank 4th nationally conferring bachelor’s degrees in computer science and information systems to African Americans and 14th to Asian Americans. The opportunity to change the face of the technology industry by inviting groups historically excluded into this the economic sector is tremendous.

The college is highly ranked in many areas. Robinson’s flagship Part-time MBA program is ranked among the best by Bloomberg Businessweek and U.S. News & World Report. Its Executive MBA is considered by Financial Times to be among the top 20 programs in the United States and one of the world’s premier programs.

Robinson’s size and legacy of excellence make it one of the most influential business schools in the country. According to Standard & Poor’s, more Georgia executives hold graduate degrees from Robinson and Georgia State than any other college or university in the country. The college’s location in the middle of Atlanta provides easy access to 16 Fortune 500 companies and 30 Fortune 1000 companies headquartered in the Atlanta metropolitan area, offering excellent opportunities for research, student job placement, and fundraising.

Using its previous and current strategic plan, Accelerate 2025, as guides, Robinson is extending its perspectives and competencies into new areas – computer science, statistics, engineering, science, and technology – and integrating them into the core activities of the business school. These strategic investments and the resulting initiatives have advanced the college towards its vision of faculty and students creatively designing implementable strategies that address real-world challenges and transform our industry partners in Atlanta and globally.

Atlanta’s reputation as the economic capital of the Southeast is well established, and the region is now rapidly developing as a tech hub. Venture capitalist Leura Craig recently was quoted saying, “We think that the Southeast and especially Atlanta has the opportunity to become a key hub for tech startups in the next 5 years. It feels a lot like Los Angeles five years ago. Covid dramatically accelerated the flight from California and New York and the Southeast’s tech scene is going to be a huge winner as a result of this migration.”
