The Art Department, within Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, at Chapman University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Design, beginning August 2023.

The Design Program is part of the Art Department in the Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The Department includes Design, Art History, and Studio Art. The Design curriculum emphasizes research methods, process, interdisciplinarity, conceptual design methods, visual literacy, history, writing and verbal development, and training in technology that prepares students to enter the design and digital media profession. Applicants must have a terminal degree (MFA, or PhD) in hand by August 2023. Applicants should provide a clear and strong record of creative scholarship. Creative practice and a research trajectory in interdisciplinarity is highly desirable including research, applied design projects, and interactions focused in human activity and developing meaningful sociotechnical systems. Creative scholarship may include exploration in information design and visualization, human-centered systems, health humanities and design, interdisciplinary connections with engineering, visual culture production, theory, and intersections in design applied to diversity, equity, inclusion and global citizenship.This is a full-time position with the expectation to teach lower and upper division undergraduate design courses. Tenure-track faculty members are expected to develop and maintain an active creative research agenda and are evaluated on their research/scholarly/creative activity, teaching, and service.
