Two Tenure Track Faculty Positions Department of Physics, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI

The Department of Physics at Western Michigan University seeks applicants for two full-time tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant/associate professor level. These academic year positions are expected to begin in August of 2023. Preferred candidates should have expertise in experimental condensed matter physics or materials science, but candidates in other areas of experimental, theoretical or computational physics or astrophysics will be considered.

The Physics Department offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in physics, as well as an astronomy minor. Major equipment available includes a 14 Tesla Quantum Design Physical Properties Measurement System (including dilution refrigerator), a 6 MV tandem Van de Graaff accelerator, powder and single crystal x-ray diffractometers, PVD and CVD systems, an SEM and two high speed MPI computing clusters with 256 nodes.

Minimum qualifications: • A PhD or equivalent degree in physics, materials science, or a related field awarded prior to August 2023. • A strong research record as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed journals. • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and building a diverse, inclusive and equitable physics community. • Commitment to supporting the success of students from a variety of underrepresented groups. • Potential and interest in attracting external funding for high-impact research.
