The University of Rochester seeks applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor in data science, a strategic area of growth for the University. This will be a joint appointment between the Goergen Institute for Data Science (GIDS -- https://www.sas.rochester.edu/dsc/) and another University of Rochester department that best aligns with the applicant’s research & teaching vision and that will serve as the tenure home. The hired candidate will have the opportunity to supervise PhD, Master’s, and undergraduate students both at their tenure home department and at GIDS. We are eager to hire in optimization theory and methods with data science applications to machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI) and beyond, including online, distributed, and federated learning; optimization and generalization in overparameterized deep neural networks; reinforcement learning, autonomy, and decision making. Exceptional candidates in all areas of data science are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have (or be about to receive) a doctorate in computer science, data science, electrical and computer engineering, operations research, applied mathematics, economics, statistics, or a related discipline.
