Position Description
The Department of Dermatology (https://www.umassmed.edu/derm/) at UMass Chan Medical School (https://www.umassmed.edu/) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. Rank will be commensurate with ability and experience. The position will be highly competitive with regard to start-up funds, laboratory space, and salary. We are seeking individuals with a PhD and/or MD and the candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an innovative, externally funded research program. Primary appointment will be in the Department of Dermatology and suitable candidates will be eligible for affiliation within the Autoimmune Therapeutics Institute at UMass Chan (https://www.umassmed.edu/aiti/). As members of the T. H. Chan School of Medicine community (https://www.umassmed.edu/som/), we benefit from access to collaborative research and clinical colleagues with diverse expertise across the Department of Medicine, RNA Therapeutics Institute, Programs in Molecular Medicine, Immunology and Microbiology, Innate Immunity, Systems Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biotechnology, and Molecular, Cell, and Cancer Biology. We also share the campus with the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (https://www.umassmed.edu/gsbs/), which supports a thriving Ph.D. training program and welcomed more than 60 first-year Ph.D. candidates in 2023. Successful faculty candidates will join a growing research program within the department, conducting innovative research related to immune-mediated diseases of the skin. Physician-scientists with translational research interests are particularly encouraged to apply, but all candidates studying immune-mediated skin diseases are eligible. Licensed physician scientists will have the opportunity to operate specialty patient clinics within the Department. Selection will be based on excellence in research and the potential to maintain an outstanding research program. UMass Chan faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service, and the successful candidate will be expected to direct an externally funded independent research program as well as participate in graduate and/or medical education. Modern laboratory space will be provided in the Lazare Research Building and extensive core facilities are available on campus. Candidates must have a record of significant research accomplishments with the potential to establish and lead an independent research program. The highest priority will be given to investigators with outstanding research programs that enhance our current strengths and who demonstrate an interest in improving diversity and inclusion in the life sciences. Successful candidates will also demonstrate strong communication skills and an ability to engage in collaborative research endeavors.
