Accelerator Scientist (Research Associate)
Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator Sciences and Education

The Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator-based Sciences and Education (CLASSE) is seeking an accelerator scientist at the level of research associate in the high brightness electron source group. The successful candidate will take part in multiple ongoing projects related to photocathodes and photoinjectors, including but not limited to: high current beam generation from novel photocathodes, photocathode growth and characterization, and ultrafast electron beam generation from photocathodes for time resolved electron diffraction experiments. CLASSE is a world leader in accelerator science and its applications.

Requirements include:
• PhD in accelerator physics or closely related field;
• Experience with the operation of photoinjector accelerator systems, including: ultra-high vacuum practices, mode-locked laser operation and maintenance, photoinjector instrumentation;
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to direct technical support personnel;
• Experience working successfully as part of a team in a collaborative and multidisciplinary scientific environment;
• Familiarity or ability to quickly learn safety practices relevant to radiation generating devices and high power lasers.

The initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of extension.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
