As part of our strategic cluster hiring initiative https://cul.colgate.edu/cluster-hire-initiative, Colgate University Libraries seek a creative and outcome-oriented Metadata and Cataloging Librarian. This is an open-rank position for a library faculty member who will join a team that produces the technical and descriptive metadata needed to provide intellectual and physical access to our information resources and collections. An MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent is required at the time of hire or by the end of the first year of hire. The successful candidate will participate in planning and implementing projects focused on non-MARC metadata and management of complex workflows. Additionally, this librarian will work closely with cataloging staff to create and edit MARC metadata for eResources (such as eBook packages and streaming videos) in addition to physical library materials (such as books, serials, and DVDs). In both MARC and non-MARC environments, this librarian will explore new technologies in metadata applications and metadata schema adaptation; develop standards, policies, and procedures; and manage new and evolving projects. This position will require working collaboratively with a broad range of people from diverse backgrounds, including other library colleagues, students, faculty, and staff. The successful candidate will also actively participate in the creation and maintenance of digital projects that reflect Colgate’s historic past and support its scholarly contributions. The Metadata and Cataloging Librarian will join a cohort with two additional positions in this cluster hire: a Head of Special Collections and University Archives; and an Outreach and Engagement Librarian. A more detailed list of required and preferred qualifications for the Metadata and Cataloging Librarian position can be found here: https://cul.colgate.edu/metadata-cataloging-librarian. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for this position, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background. We encourage you to apply, even if you don’t have all the preferred qualifications.
