The Film and Media Studies program at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor in Media Practice, beginning fall semester 2021. We seek applications from scholar-makers whose practice and scholarship are interdisciplinary and connect in unique ways to performance, visual, sonic, digital, and/or movement-based arts. We are especially interested in applicants whose work in experimental media production is in dialogue with new developments in media theory, including, but not limited to, issues of power, privilege, and social justice. Teaching responsibilities will include our required Introduction to Film and Media Studies course, existing elective courses such as Global Cinema, Global Media, Documentary Film, LGBTQ Cinema, History and Theory of Cinema, and/or New Media, and upper-level courses that integrate theory and practice in the candidate’s areas of expertise (five courses over two semesters). The position offers opportunities to collaborate with faculty and departments across the disciplines to develop courses that explore the mediated nature of politics and culture in local, national, and/or global contexts. Ongoing contributions to the program’s longstanding tradition of bringing a diverse group of film, video, and media makers and scholars to campus will be integral to the position, as will curating screenings/exhibitions and organizing special events. Completion of PhD or MFA is expected prior to or shortly after the date of hire.

Letter of application, CV, and names of three recommenders who will submit letters at a later stage must be submitted through https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/18320. Colgate strives to be a community supportive of diverse perspectives and identities. Candidates should describe in their cover letter how their teaching and scholarship might create an inclusive educational environment, as well as their ability to work effectively with students across a wide range of identities and backgrounds. Review of applications will begin on April 2, 2021 and continue until the position is filled. Further information about the Film and Media Studies program can be found at https://www.colgate.edu/academics/departments-programs/film-and-media-studies-program.
