Tenure-track position at the University of Oregon in Chemical Biology

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Oregon (chemistry.uoregon.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the broadly-defined area of Chemical Biology at the Assistant Professor level to begin in Fall 2023 or later. A PhD is required, and the position will remain open until filled.

Outstanding and creative candidates with research interests focusing on the development and/or use of chemical tools and approaches to address fundamental questions in biology and medicine are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and researchers from diverse backgrounds. Primary selection criteria will focus on the potential for establishing an innovative, internationally-recognized, and externally-funded independent research program with accompanying excellence and innovation in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Applicants are encouraged who are working in all areas of chemical biology, particularly in applications of synthetic chemistry to topics such as bio(in)organic chemistry, bioorthogonal chemistry, molecular sensing, metals in medicine, synthetic biology/directed evolution, imaging, biomaterials, and related areas. New faculty will join a multidisciplinary, and collaborative research environment to complement strengths in organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry, materials chemistry, and bio(in)organic chemistry, biochemistry and synthetic biology within the department. Many faculty collaborate closely with the Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact (accelerate.uoregon.edu), Institute of Molecular Biology (molbio.uoregon.edu), and Material Science Institute (materialscience.uoregon.edu). Faculty and student experiences and professional development are further enhanced by unique graduate training programs, close connections with local biotech industry partners, and innovation activities.

Applications submitted at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/22431 and include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research plans and objectives, statement of teaching philosophy or interests, and a statement outlining past/current efforts and plans for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be uploaded directly by the recommenders. Review of applications will begin October 9, 2022 and continue on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

The UO is dedicated to building and supporting a culturally diverse faculty committed to research, teaching, and scholarship. Applications from groups underrepresented in STEM are strongly encouraged.
