The Department of Physics and Astronomy, College of Science, of Texas A&M University invites applications for an assistant professor in astronomy/astrophysics. This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position with a nine-month academic appointment. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2021.

The successful candidate will establish a vigorous, independent research program that will attract external funding; assume full teaching responsibilities at the graduate and undergraduate levels of astronomy and physics; and contribute to the service missions of the department. Researchers in theoretical and observational areas of astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology who broaden and strengthen the existing research areas at Texas A&M University are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will also become a member of the George P. and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics and Astronomy and be expected to contribute to the thriving research environment.

Over the past decade, Texas A&M University has built an energetic astronomy group with research activities spanning a wide range of areas, including extragalactic astronomy, supermassive black holes, near-field cosmology, supernovae, time-domain astronomy, the cosmological distance scale, instrumentation, and astrostatistics. Texas A&M is an institutional member of the Dark Energy Survey, the Giant Magellan Telescope, the Hobby Eberly Telescope Dark Energy eXperiment (HETDEX), the LSST Corporation, the Maunakea Spectroscopic Explorer, and the AST-3 project at Dome A in Antarctica. High-performance research computing resources include three clusters at Texas A&M and access to the Lonestar5 cluster at the Texas Advanced Computing Center.

The successful candidate must hold an PhD or equivalent advanced degree in physics, astronomy, or a related field and have a strong, demonstrated record of original research in astronomy/astrophysics.
