We seek candidates with relevant academic and administrative leadership experience whose record qualifies for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor (applicants at the rank of advanced associate professor at their current institution will be considered). The department invites applications from scholars in all areas of journalism and communication. The candidate should also have relevant professional experience in journalism or communication. Qualifications include a doctorate in journalism, mass communication, or related field, and an established record of excellence in scholarly achievement, teaching, and administrative leadership. We particularly encourage applications from women and underrepresented minorities. The department chair will provide academic and administrative leadership to faculty and staff, teach one course per semester, conduct research, oversee and engage in departmental operations, including budgetary management, and serve as a member of the College of Arts and Sciences’ leadership team. The chair will be expected to support a strong, collegial, productive department committed to inclusivity, diversity, and work-life balance, and to build upon the department's nationally recognized strengths in research and undergraduate education. The department has offered a small undergraduate program of superior quality since 1927 and offers a number of joint courses with interdisciplinary programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. Alumni are in the top ranks of American journalism. The department is well-supported and has a number of endowments in support of faculty, students, and facilities. With major and minor programs in journalism, science and environmental writing, and mass communication, the department has nine faculty and staff and enrolls about 125 majors and minors. More information can be found at: http://www.lehigh.edu/journalism. The department also oversees the campus newspaper, The Brown and White, published twice weekly since 1894 and a consistent winner of regional, state, and national awards.
