The University of Oregon’s Department of Linguistics invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Linguistics, to begin in fall 2018. We seek candidates specializing in fieldwork & language description, whose training and research orientation are compatible with our commitment to functional/usage-based approaches to linguistic explanation. Competitive applicants will be capable of outstanding research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. A successful candidate will have an established program of field research, thorough knowledge of relevant technology and software, and have additional expertise in one or more related areas such as language revitalization, corpus creation and management, digital archiving, quantitative methods, and experimental methods in the field. The best applications will also highlight the theoretical richness and/or typological relevance of their research program in one or more areas of linguistics. We are especially interested in scholars who will enhance the department’s existing strengths in historical linguistics, usage-based approaches to syntax, laboratory phonology, and/or complement our current expertise with other strengths such as quantitative/statistical methods or experimental approaches in fieldwork. We are a diverse and growing department with strengths in linguistic typology, functionalist approaches to syntax, language description and revitalization, historical linguistics, experimental linguistics, laboratory phonology, language acquisition and teaching, and variationist sociolinguistics. We particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Requirements: Ph.D. in Linguistics or related field in hand by time of appointment. Salary is competitive.

Candidates are asked to apply on line at www.academicjobsonline.org by submitting an application letter, a curriculum vitae, a writing sample, and three letters of recommendation by December 1, 2017, or until the post has been filled.
