Position Description
Visiting Position in Chinese Language and Culture (2024-2025)
The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Macalester College seeks to hire a one-year visiting assistant professor in Chinese language and culture for the academic year 2024-2025. The position is full-time and benefits-eligible. Since the teaching responsibilities will involve both language and literature/culture courses, applicants should possess expertise in Chinese literature and/or another discipline related to China (such as Cultural Studies, Visual and/or Material Culture, Intellectual History, and/or Linguistics). Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to teach Mandarin Chinese classes at all levels. A Ph.D. is preferred, although qualified ABDs will be considered. Applicants should exhibit commitment to inclusive teaching in a liberal arts context and will be expected to contribute actively to the life of the department by collaborating with faculty colleagues, mentoring students, and participating in co-curricular events.
