Occupational Summary

Classification created to permit compensation to individuals performing scientific research on Campus and in the Medical Center using University facilities without detailed supervision. The use of this classification is reserved for those who have either received a doctorate or have demonstrated equivalent professional attainment. This classification is administered on Campus through the Office of the Provost and in the Medical Center through the Office of the Chancellor for Health Affairs. It is not subject to the Wage and Salary system.

Work Performed The Research Scientist will work on a project related to the development of intelligent ultrasound imaging systems. The goal of this project is to develop an active ultrasound system where user expertise is employed to refine the control process, while autonomous elasticity (or viscoelasticity) mapping improves image quality and allows human operators to best use their skills for both optimization and diagnosis. The project's research objectives include: (i) data fusion techniques for ultrasound elastography; (ii) methods for interactive ultrasound elastography; and (iii) framework for safe and efficient device implementation. The ultrasound system will be validated on a test-bed based on suitable laboratory phantoms and real-time control of existing ultrasound devices.

The candidate is expected to have a strong background in computation, inverse problems, and optimization. Some knowledge related to ultrasound elastography is a plus, but not required. This is a valuable opportunity to work with an active, multidisciplinary research group. The appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Candidate should have a Ph.D. in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related area. Also, the candidate must have excellent programming skills. Candidate should provide their resume, contact information and at least 2 references.
