The Department of Linguistics & Philosophy at MIT invites applications for a tenure-track position in linguistics at the Assistant Professor level, starting July 1, 2018. The appointment will be made in the area of either Language Acquisition or Experimental/Computational Linguistics. The department seeks candidates whose research connects productively with current issues in core areas of linguistic theory. We welcome applicants whose work is wholly within linguistics as well as applicants whose work connects linguistics with adjacent research in cognitive science, such as developmental psychology, learnability theory, computational modeling of language acquisition, or human sentence processing. The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in Linguistics or a related field, and will be expected to participate in the research, teaching and advising activities of our department.

Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, copies of up to three representative research papers, evidence of teaching ability, and three letters of reference. In addition, the application should include a statement outlining the applicant's research interests and plans, and the broader questions that this research promises to engage.

Consideration of applications will begin on December 15, 2017. To ensure full consideration, applications should be complete and letters of recommendation received by this date, but we will consider all applications submitted until the position is filled.

Women and members of under-represented minorities are especially encouraged to apply.
