Position: The MIT Music and Theater Arts Section is seeking a full-time Lecturer I in Music Technology to meet the growing demand of our undergraduate students and expand our course offerings.

Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities are teaching three classes per semester (six per year). Potential classes include, but are not limited to: Introduction to Music Technology; Digital Instrument Performance Ensemble; Sound Design and Synthesis; Interactive Music Systems; Music Information Retrieval; Studio Production and Recording Techniques.

The rank of Lecturer I holds an initial appointment of three years, followed by successive reviews, reappointment and potential promotion to Lecturer II.

Qualifications: The qualified candidate has 2+ years of experience teaching at the university level and holds a Master’s in Computer Science or Engineering, or a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or Music (with degree completed by July 1, 2018). Additionally, the candidate must be engaged in significant research or productions in areas of music technology. Specializations must include at least some of the following: digital musical instruments and new interfaces for musical expression, including live performances; digital signal processing, sound synthesis, and filters; interactive music and game audio; music and audio in VR/AR environments.

Secondary specializations may include: music cognition; sound design; sound installations; studio engineering and recording techniques.

We prefer candidates with some of following skills: 5+ years of programming experience, preferably in python, javascript, or c++; proficiency with MaxMSP or PureData; proficiency with modern DAWs; experience in studio recording sessions, mixing, and mastering.

Starting Date: July 1, 2018
