Description: The Department of Classics at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are looking for a scholar with a research profile focusing primarily on Early Greek Epic. Candidates should be able to teach Greek and Latin at all levels, in addition to graduate research seminars, Classics undergraduate courses, and general education offerings. Interests that enhance the Department’s scholarly or teaching strengths in areas such as religion and myth and cross-cultural engagements with epic traditions are welcome, as is leadership in new directions. The Department strongly supports interdisciplinary initiatives, and our faculty are broadly engaged with other departments, centers, programs, and individual colleagues across the university, representing such units as the Center for the Study of Religion, as well as the Departments of Near Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures, History, Art, History of Art, and Comparative Studies.

Qualifications:

This appointment will begin August 15, 2023, and the successful applicant must have PhD in hand in Classics or a related field by the appointment date that confers the equivalent training in both the ancient Greek and Latin languages by the start of employment. Teaching experience at the college level is preferred, as is a trajectory for producing original peer-reviewed research. ABDs welcome to apply.
