Position Description
The Department of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Knowledge Translation. Job Description: As part of a Public Health Agency of Canada funded project, we are hiring a post-doctoral fellow to support the development of national clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of mental health disorders in older adults. In particular, the guideline under development will address the assessment and management behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia. Our objectives for these guidelines are to provide practical and evidence-based recommendations to guide clinicians across Canada in providing high quality mental health care to older adults. In this role you will work closely with a project co-ordinator, with a working group consisting of seniors mental health researchers and clinicians, with project partners, advisors, and external experts, and under the supervision of Dr. Seitz. The Postdoctoral scholar will be involved in the design of studies, study management (research ethics and compliance procedures), analysis of studies using observational and biostatistical methods, and knowledge translation activities related to research outputs including presentations and preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications. The postdoctoral scholar will also take a lead role in communicating and coordinating with other trainees, researchers and members of the research staff. There will be opportunities for continuing education as part of the Postdoctoral scholar position. The position is available to any suitable candidates located in Canada although preference will be given to candidates who are located in Calgary, Alberta although remote work from within Canada is possible. The start date for the position is November 1, 2022 and the duration of the position is for one year with the possibility of a 6 – 12 month extension depending on performance and funding. The post-doctoral scholar will be supervised by Dr. Dallas Seitz at the University of Calgary. Annual Salary: $65,000 Canadian Qualifications: • Required: PhD in relevant field including: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Services Research, Gerontology or related field. • Completion of PhD (or anticipated completion of PhD) within 2 years preceding application preferred. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to work independently as part of research team. • Experience with knowledge translation activities including knowledge synthesis, implementation science or educational interventions • Experience with research ethics board applications preferred. • Previous experience in systematic reviews and/or guideline development is required, including publication of a previous review with responsibility for data extraction and quality appraisal • Content expertise in mental health and/or methodology expertise in systematic review or guideline are strong assets but not required • Strong medical writing skills • Good critical appraisal skills • Experience working to deadline • Excellent organizational and project management skills • Strong interpersonal skills and oral communication skills • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and initiative to solve problems independently • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, and to build working relationships with external partners and stakeholders Application details: Applicants who are interested in this position should contact Dr. Dallas Seitz (dallas.seitz@ucalgary.ca) and provide their current CV along with the names of three references and a brief cover letter outlining your interest in the position.
