Chapman University seeks
applications for a full-time faculty position in animation and visual effects
for its nationally recognized Dodge College of Film and Media Arts beginning
August 2023.

Qualifications
|
We invite applications from
outstanding candidates with diverse research and teaching perspectives based
on non-traditional educational backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have
professional and teaching experience in three or more areas: 2D and/or 3D
animation production; storyboarding; 2D animation; writing for animation;
animation direction; character design; and Pre-Production Art/concept design.
Required
• Advanced degree in animation or a related field; OR professional industry
experience in animation or related industries.
• Proven effective record of accomplishment, teaching at college level
(minimum two years).
Preferred
• Expertise in and ability to teach software and other tools currently used
in animation production - 2D animation. Toon Boom Story Board Pro, and
Harmony. Adobe suite.
• Experience in Animation Production with three or more of the following
areas: 2D and/or 3D animation production; storyboarding; 2D animation;
writing for animation; animation direction; character design; and
Pre-Production Art/concept design.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary collaboration and project management.
• Expertise in and ability to teach software and other tools and techniques
currently used in 2D animation production.

Responsibilities
|
Faculty duties include
teaching, academic advising, and service to Dodge College and Chapman
University. The teaching load is 24 credits per academic year, in addition to
continued professional work and/or research and scholarship.
1. Teach courses in the Animation and Visual Effects program
2. Work closely with faculty, staff, and students to plan and execute
projects
3. Advise on equipment needs, standards and documentation for animation
production
4. Mentor undergraduate students
5. Develop curriculum to align with current and emerging industry standards
6. Explore opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaboration
7. Maintain industry relations to enhance student internship and career
opportunities
8. Contribute to developing a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion for
all constituents.

This position is contingent on final budget approval. Successful completion
of a background check is required for the final candidate. Salary will be
commensurate with qualifications; the range for this assistant / associate
professor position of animation and visual effects is $95,000-$105,000.
